Sugar Valley Update

This coming weekend is the time for one of the most unique Scouting opportunities around!  If you have not already registered, please register this Thursday during the Scout meeting and get the necessary paperwork completed.

We will meet in the lower parking lot at Mt. Tabor UMC (in front of the cemetery) at 5:00 pm on Friday.  Please bring all of your camping gear (see list for car camping) as well as a bag dinner (may be fast food).  Please arrive in Class A, as we will always travel in uniform. We will leave the church as a group promptly at 5:30 pm to head to Sugar Valley Airport.  Facilities at the airport include a nice brick fire pit, volleyball court, and plenty of space for other games.  We will also be completing the requirements for the aviation merit badge while we are there.

Sugar Valley Airport has a long-standing partnership with the EAA, a nationwide group of dedicated pilots who have provided more than 2 million flights to introduce young people to aviation, including a special partnership with the BSA.  Our pilots will include two women, who are also certified aviation instructors, and will arrive at the camp Saturday morning for flights if weather allows.  All flights are at the discretion of the pilots.  Weather or other conditions may require us to delay or cancel the flying component of the event.

Cooking will be done with the patrol method.  Hannah is the patrol leader for the older Scouts, and will be planning all meals, shopping, etc.  The adults will be combined with the younger girls and their patrol leader, Nora, for the cooking, but adults will be rotating out with the older scouts as needed.     We should return to Leinbach park at 10:00 am for pickup.  We will meet at the park to avoid Sunday morning traffic at the church.  As I have a list of all of the phone numbers, I will also do a group text in case the time changes.
