Premise: Bicycling on the Virginia Creeper Trail, a Rails to Trail bicycle path in Damascus Va. The distance is around 18 miles, but it’s all a gentle downhill grade. We will sleep in tents at a local campground Friday and Saturday nights.
Meals:
Friday dinner: Bring a bag dinner with you for the bus
Saturday breakfast-cooking by patrol
Saturday Lunch: “Trail lunch” meaning something that does not require cooking i.e. beef jerky, trail mix, protein bars. There are some shops along the trail if you would like to bring a little spending money. SCOUTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH!
Saturday Dinner: Patrol cooking
Sunday Breakfast: Patrol cooking
Sunday Lunch: Bring money $$ for the lunch on the way back
Gear:
Clothing: A Scout always travels in Class A, so wear it Friday. Bring layers for the bike ride. ALWAYS bring your rain jacket.
Other gear: See packing list. You can bring your own bike or rent one at the outfitter for an additional fee. Bring a day pack for carrying lunch and clothing layers on the trail. Please get your bike out and give it a test ride, pump up the tires, and do any repairs necessary. The trail is no place to find out your bike isn’t working well!
Troop provided gear: The usual patrol gear: Tents for youth, cooking and patrol gear for each patrol. If adults need a tent let me know, I have a few extra.
